Is an Italian meal a way of life?

More than the food it may just be a state of mind. The variety of foods consumed and the various cooking methods used on the boot actually create an unspoken competitive atmosphere. A spirited friendly confident environment in the south and in the north elevates the taste of Italy. Is the taste of Italy based on red sauce pasta and meats as in Naples, or is it “misto piatto” of tender pork meats, served up with kraut, cren (horseradish) and mustards, plus beer as in Trieste? The great tasting food of Italy alone is not an Italian meal. It is also the atmosphere created at the table.

An Italian mealtime experience is ignored when you gulp down a fabulous pasta dish, veal scaloppini with all the flavors of Italy and a couple of glasses of Chianti wine. This may be American meal with Italian flavors. Italians savor their food and cherish their mealtime. Should you slowly consume all the juices and flavors of a steak and a potato with a passion and pleasures of a cuisine, you have eaten an Italian meal.
